Minister of Forestry and Wildlife

THE MINISTER OF FORESTRY AND WILDLIFE is responsible for elaborating and implementing Government’s forestry and wildlife policy.

In this capacity, he is in charge of:

- developing and managing protected areas;

- managing and protecting national forests;

- making an inventory of and protecting fauna and flora;

- developing and controlling the implementation of regeneration, reforestation, inventory and forest development programmes;

- ensuring the respect of regulations in the area of forest and wildlife exploitation by various actors and the application of administrative sanctions where necessary;

- developing and managing botanic gardens;

- ensuring the application of international conventions ratified by Cameroon in the area of forestry, wildlife and hunting in collaboration with the Ministry of External Relations;

- ensuring liaison with professional forestry organs;

- monitoring sub-regional organisations in charge of conserving the sub-regional ecosystem in collaboration with the Relevant ministries.

He ensures liaison between the Government, the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and the Central African Forests Commission (COMIFAC) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Relations.

He oversees:

-the National Forestry Development Agency (ANAFOR);

-the National Forestry School (ENEF);

- the Wildlife School.

He is assisted by a Secretary of State.
