Minister of Energy and Water Ressources

THE MINISTER OF ENERGY AND WATER RESOURCES is responsible for developing and implementing Government’s policy on water and energy production, transportation and distribution.

As such, he is responsible for:

  • the development of Government strategies and plans for water and energy supply;
  • prospection, research and exploitation of water resources in urban and rural areas;
  • the quantitative and qualitative improvement of water and energy production;
  • the promotion of investments in the water and energy sectors, in conjunction with the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development and relevant administrative bodies;
  • the promotion of new energies in conjunction with the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation;
  • the regulation of water use in agricultural, industrial and health-related activities, in conjunction with relevant administrative bodies;
  • monitoring the management of water basins;
  • monitoring groundwater management;
  • monitoring downstream oil and gas activities;
  • monitoring regulatory companies of the water and energy sectors.

He supervises institutions and companies which produce, transport, distribute and regulate water, electricity, gas and oil, including:

  • the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation (CAMWATER);
  • the  Electricity Development Corporation (EDC);
  • the Rural Electrification Agency (AER);
  • the Electricity Sector Regulatory Agency (ARSEL);
  • the Cameroon Oil Depot Company (SCDP);
  • the National Refining Company (SONARA).
