Minister of Public Health

THE MINISTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH is responsible for the elaboration and the implementation of Government policy in matters of public health.

As such, he has as duty to:

- ensure the organisation, management and development of public health facilities;

- ensure the technical control of private health facilities;

- oversee the extension of health coverage of the entire National Territory;

- ensure campaigns against epidemics and pandemics;

- ensure the availability of preventive medicine;

- ensure quality care and improve the technical equipment of public and private health facilities;

- provide support to health facilities in collaboration with the Relevant ministries;

- manage international medical and health cooperation in collaboration with the Ministry of External Relations;

- monitor the activities of specialised technical bodies and committees within his area of competence;

- monitor sports medicine and occupational medicine in collaboration with the Relevant ministries;

- supervise the development of traditional medicine in collaboration with the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation;

- contribute to the training of medical doctors, pharmacists and paramedical staff as well as their continuous retraining;

- control the exercise of the professions of medical doctor, dental surgeon, pharmacist and medical and health care, and supervise all the corresponding professional orders;

- monitor the activities, that fall under his area of competence, of the Cardinal Paul Emile LEGER National Centre for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs. 

He is the link between Government and the World Health Organisation (WHO) and international bodies within his area of competence in collaboration with the Ministry of External Relations.

He exercises technical supervision of administrative public establishments of the public health sector.

He equally supervises:

- the Hospital Centre for Endoscopic Surgery and Human Reproductive Research and Application (CHRACERH); 

 - the Centre Pasteur (CPC); 

- the National Drug Quality Control and Valuation Laboratory  

(LANACOM); 

- the National Centre for the Supply of Essential Drugs and Health Products (CENAME)

He is assisted by a Secretary of State for the fight against epidemics and pandemics.
