Rwanda is seeking the backing of Cameroon for the position of Secretary General of the International Organisation of the Francophonie when the Organisation will be electing a new Secretary General in October.

Rwandan Foreign Minister, Louise Mushikiwabo bearer of a message from President Paul Kagame to his Cameroonian counterpart, President Paul Biya handed a sealed envelope to Prime Minister Philemon Yang for onward transmission.

Rwanda wishes to gain prominence at the International Organisation of the Francophonie, as it presents its bid for the position of Secretary General during elections at the October summit in Armenia.

This country’s foreign Minister is their candidate for the position.

Relations between Yaounde and Kigali are good footing as both countries share common values within the framework of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

The Rwandan Foreign Minister, who is in Cameroon to attend the Regional summit on the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, will be running for the post of Secretary General of the Francophonie with the incumbent, Michaelle Jean, who is seeking a second term.
